Guidance - Class of 2012

2009-2010- Junior Year Checklist

Throughout Your Junior Year:
This is the year to start attending college information programs, visiting college campuses, gathering information, and start searching for scholarships.  Continue working on your requirements and stay focused on your coursework.  Keep your grades up!

Do SAT/ACT test prep:  www.collegeboard.com, www.act.org, or SAT COACH ONLINE at www.palmbeach.k12.fl.us/satcoach/.  There are also private companies that offer test preparation (please see guidance for a list of resources).

Register to take the PSAT in October.  This test is optional but recommended.  Students who meet criteria will be considered for National Merit Scholarships.
Register for the SAT and ACT online.    Fee waivers (if applicable) are available in the guidance office.  It is advised that a junior should consider taking both of these college entrance exams in the spring of their junior year.

Start searching scholarship websites.  See guidance or G-Star website for a list of scholarship websites.

Start researching college choices based on location, price, majors offered, etc.  This can be done on the internet, by phone, or in person.  Also, plan visits to perspective colleges; contact colleges about open houses.  Spring break is a popular time for these visits so make your reservations to visit perspective colleges early.
